HMV has confirmed that Deborah Harry will do an "in-store"
appearance on June 22/96. what she'll do however is a mystery.
whether it'll be an autograph session, performance, or something
completely different ... no one seems to know. i was talking with a
friend who works for the jazz fest and she said that they are letting
Deb do her own thing. she thinks that Deb will try not to steal the
JP's thunder.
regards, Garth.
ps - Louis, the concert listing should read "CALGARY ALBERTA" not
ALBERTA CALGARY (that's like saying ARIZONA PHEONIX). ciao.

! Wait, so the "little birdies" talk to you, and they get you into
celebrity parties as well (not to mention Debbie's limo!). Pretty cool
birdies! :)
*sigh* How envious am I?
No one answered my previous question - has Heavy _really_ only just come
out in the States? (Apparently so.) When did it finish production? It
seems to have been held up for a long time (And as I said, I saw it in the
Uk a couple of months ago)
Incidentally, what's Debbie's current look? The last/only time I saw
her "in the flesh" was a concert in 93. She looked fab. Then when the
Atomic remix was released she appeared on Top of The Pops in an _awful_
dress thing. She looked like a chicken! (The dress had these feathers all
over. Ick!). I wish I could make it to Calgary..... doubtful though:)

HMV is an international music chain store. the store that deb is
doing her instore appearance is on 8th Ave S.W. at 4th St SW. Their
phone number should be (it may be wrong) is 403/233-0121. if that
doesn't work, try directory assistance (403-555-1212) and ask for the
downtown HMV store.

It did play in NY back in early Fall/Late Summer at the Museum of the
Moving Image. It was the Director's Cut and he was there to answer
questions etc. It was great but he said it would be shortened before a
major release. I just hope they didn't cut any of her scenes. She was

Yes, tonight (June 5) is the American premiere of Heavy. It was held up
because they wanted to gain credibility in Cannes and Sundance before it
showed here to a very picky audience.

Subject: [DHBIS] Keep on Going, The Look
It may be a little late to jump in on the "Keep on Going"
debate, but what the heck:
I *love* this tune. What I like about it is the fact that
it isn't some incredibly optimistic song in which Debbie
bounces off the walls screaming about how great things are
gonna be. Rather, it's kind of cautiously upbeat...sort of
like, "OK, you're having a hard time, but keep your
perspective, it sounds banal, but there are people worse off
than you, and you gotta put some elbow grease into life if
you wanna make it work." Which, of course, is much more
realistic than blithely assuring us that all we need to do
is sit back and wait for everything to work out for the
best. It's really a mature song, and I think it reflects
the developments in Debbie's artistry quite well. I find
myself humming it a lot, and have even heard it on the radio
network at my gym. (Have also heard "Standing in My Way"
there, which also struck me as a tune that should have been
on Parallel Lines.)
About Debbie's latest look, I saw her a few months back at a
Mardi Gras party in NYC, and she had butt-length
brownish/red hair, and was wearing a scarlet red outfit with
lots of fringe. She looked great (a bit heavier than the
last time I saw her), but we didn't get to see that much of
her, since she did only one song. :( Oh well, a little of
Debbie is better than none at all, of course.
I'm so close to NYC, and I wish I could get in for the Heavy
premiere, but I just don't think it's feasible. Hope to
hear more about it from the folks who did!

That had to be a wig, since Debbie's hair hasn't been that long perhaps
ever. The longest was probably around 1978.
Anyway, I saw Debbie on Sunday. Her hair was her natural brown color,
but sometime in the recent past, she dyed the very front blonde!!
We had Japanese food overlooking the Hudson River and stopped for a

I don't know about translating it into Espanol, but Enric Sole, a friend
from Spain who has been in the DHCS for many years and has the largest
collection of DH live tapes, transcribed the Spanish part. I did not
translate it to English; this was left as an exercise for the reader.
I printed his transcription in Fan Mail #15, which you can get from me

Well last night was a blast!
Met at Debbie's at around 9:15.
The limo showed up at 9:30 but Debbie didn't like it so we drove her car
instead.
Arrived at the party to an onslaught of paparazzi flashing pics and giving me
a headache (what a pain).
At one point it was so crowded that the fire department showed up and of
course Debbie ended up posing for pictures with them (to their delight).
Coyote Shivers Band played at around 10:30 but it was so crowded that we
pretty much hung outside during the gig. Actually most of the night we spent
outside of the club where almost all of the cast and crew of the film were
hiding from the heat and the crowds.
The night was a huge success for Deb and should spawn tons of press pics, so
keep your eyes open.

Hi guys!!!
Here's all the dirt I could find on the jp's and debbie's appearance in
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan!!!!
This info comes from Sasktel's jazz page. They're a sponsor for the event.
Events for Friday June 28
10:00 p.m. - Special Concert - Centennial Auditorium, Stage
Jazz Passengers with Deborah Harry
This will be at Saskatoon Centennial Auditorium
Description:
The Centennial Auditorium, home of the Saskatoon Symphony, is a great
location for musical events from opera to rock concerts. It has
the seating capacity for the Jazz Festival's largest acts, but
still provides acoustical qualities to satisfy the most critical audiophile.
The lower level houses Centennial Hall, a great place for dancing with
some of the groups.
Address:
Saskatoon Centennial Auditorium
35 22nd Street E.
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
Canada
This will be great! I can't wait. Too bad it's not in Regina.
I don't mind travelling the 250 or so km to see Debbie though :)
The URL for the Saskatchewan Jazz Festival in which debbie's concert
is just a small part is http://www.sasknet.sk.ca/jazz
Is anyone else on the list planning to go to this concert?
If so, I'll see you there!

The cover has two bw shots. The picture of Debbie is the same used on the

I thought it was kind of cool-looking, especially since I used to like Pat

The British one has black and white stripes on (a la Parallel Lines)
behind a photo of the band taken circa 1982 (Debbie has long white hair,
like on the cover of Island of lost souls)

That sounds like the picture on the inner booklet. The American cover is a
picture of the vinyl picture-disc version of Parallel Lines where she is
licking the record. Actually, from a design point of view it is not that
great. The picture on the back is way better. Debbie is standing in her
white slip dress from PL looking real tough.

With all apologies to Daniel (whose OUTVOICE!! newsletter is fantastic!), the
thought of Debbie and Ms. Benatar sharing disk space totally turns me off.
Although she unarguably has an impressive vocal range, I found her early
recordings to be shameless Blondie rip-offs, minus the wit. As far as I'm
concerned, she may match some of Debbie's record sales, but she doesn't come
close to Debbie in terms of rock credibility.
What I think would be REALLY cool is seeing Debbie team up with some of today's
younger women rockers, like Elastica's Justine Frischman or Garbage's Shirley
Manson.

That would be great. In a rock magazine back around 79, there's a
great picture of Debbie holding the only other Debbie Harry doll
I know of. You can read on the package that it was clearly marked
"Debbie in Different Moods - Easy to Change Heads"!!
I've only seen the picture, quite unfortunately. It was also captioned,

The cover for the US version of Platinum Collection has a picture disk
with Debbie licking a vinyl record (I think this is the same picture as
the 'Picture This' single cover.) There is a purple shadow of the
picture disk behind it on a white background. Blondie is printed across
the top in red outlined letters. The Platinum Collection is printed on
the bottom right corner in black letters. It's interesting though to
note that the cover of the booklet inside is the UK outside cover (the
one where Debbie has white hair and the entire band is gathered in front
of a bunch of parallel lines.)

Yeah! I also like Pat Benatar. In fact, the first singles I ever bought
(when I was a kid) were Heart of Glass and Heartbreaker. Is it just
coincidental or were both of these songs that had the word "Heart" in its

I've been a devoted fan to Blondie, Debbie and Pat.

Probably early Pat Benatar albums sound like Blondie, because both had the
same producer,Mike Chapman.I remember him being interviewed and saying Pat
Benatar had pipes and was a nice girl, but nothing like Deborah Harry and
her band talent-wise.Benatar outsold Blondie, album wise,by a BIG margin in
the USA and when I was in high school the rockers loved Benatar, whereas...
Basically,in America (as opposed to Europe,Los Angeles or NYC)you went
over on AOR radio or you didn't go over.ETTB should have been a big
contender there, but the success of one particular song stamped DISCO on the
band,in the minds of radio people.
This sort of thinking is why I removed the radio from my car...

This message is to adam. I too was at the "heavy" party on tuesday night. I
attended with my friend Lori from YM magazine. I also saw the movie again (
I had seen it last year at the museum in astoria. I was dissappointed to see
that one of Debbie's scenes had been cut and she had so few already.
Anyway, my point is, I look at everybody's messages all the time but
never say anything on this internet thing. But I need you to do something
for me. I may have embarrassed myself in front of Debbie and since you're
closer to her than anyone in this little clique, please apologize for me.
I'm Rob, the chubby but gorgeous guy who stepped outside and spoke to
Debbie while she was talking to a few people. She acknowledged me and I told
her that I was mad that they cut a scene and that she looks more beautiful
every year. I believe it was you who was standing next to her at the time.
That was not the worst. Next, after she walked inside, I walked away
from her only to walk back and say "Nice talking to you, Debbie" and kissed
her on the cheek. That wasn't necessary since I've seen and briefly met the
woman several times and I don't need to prove anything to her, especially
that I'm a clinging leech who can't stop poking at her. A few minutes later
she was in the back and my friend from the magazine wanted me to go over to
Debbie again with her because she wanted to get maybe a few quotes for an
upcoming Liv Tyler story in YM. Well, I found Debbie and Lori had a camera
and said that I should get a picture with Debbie. So I said "Debbie, I won't
bother you again tonight, but can I get a picture with you?". Even though
she seemed a little frazzled she nodded yes and then this guy with a baseball
cap said "NO!" . I figured it may be a friend of hers and I backed away.
After he finished speaking with DH he came over to me and said "Next time
you interrupt a conversation like that you better check yourself!"
I was embarassed. I figured that I interupted them in something
important. My friend still had to talk to DH but I went outside to wait.
When my friend came out, the guy was right behind her. He looked at me but
said nothing. Then my friend lori went off on him saying that I had no class
because I interrupted their conversation. She told him that I had more of a
right to speak to her anyday than he did. He said "But I was talking to
Blondie and he interrupted me" Lori told him that she hasn't been Blondie
for fifteen years and that's how important he was. Anyway, it just kept
going and he was calling her names and me names and some papparazi guy names.
He was following us down the street and calling her a cuntface and so on.
Well, lo and behold there was Debbie, Michael Schmidt and my friend
Lori's publicist Jason standing around talking and seeing this escapade.
Michael finally told this annoying guy to fuck off and I was relieved that
he wasn't a friend of Deb's afterall.
My problem is that I like of Debbie to think of me as a fan but not a
psychopath that can't leave her alone. There are certain other fans of hers
whom I shall leave nameless that cling to her like velcro at all her shows.
I like to be more distant and just say hello or at the most a few words.
But I was a nuiscance to her that night, especially since it was an
important night for her as DH the actress not the rock star with lunatic fans
following her around all night.
Please tell her that Rob, the chubby guy with longish hair and the black
jacket who talked to her about her dog and DR. Adams tuesday night did not
meen to annoy her. Also tell her that after a year of talking to Mary at
Left Bank Entertainment about her, I'm glad they finally made some sort of
deal.
P.S. Debbie did look gorgeous the other night. I was watching American
Bandstand the other night and Debbie looked better on TUesday than she did
seventeen years ago, she was never meant to be that skinny.
Thank You, Rob

This doll does exist. I saw an advertisement for one in an issue of
"Toy Collector" magazine (a trade rag, like "Goldmine") about six months
ago. They wanted around $125.00 for it.

Hi All:
Sorry to bore everyone, but I felt the need to add my 4 cents. I personally
never liked Pat Benatar; in fact, I often felt that she was sort of a new wave
Linda Ronstadt (please understand, this is most definitely NOT a compliment!).
Pat's oft-cited operatic voice bugged the shit out of me, and I found her songs
to be pretty lame (and don't even start reciting lyrics from "Hell Is For
Children" to me).
As far as 70's and 80's women in rock being somehow more real then "phony and
contrived" 90's rock women - well, I beg to differ. There's worthy music from
every decade, and if you honestly think that Terri Nun (Berlin) or Dale Bozzio
(Missing Persons) have something over Justine Frischman (Elastica) and Sonya of
Echobelly then I'd say your memory is fairly selective.
I should just mention one more thing - lots of pop music is phony, superficial,
or contrived, but that doesn't make it bad. Fer instance, I adore evry
lightweight, throwaway single Bananarama ever released. Isn't it grand to have
an opinion?

I have that picture too. I remember when I saw it, I thought it was so
cool. But now I think it might have just been a funny coincidence that the
doll's name was Debbie.
I would love to see one of these custom dolls. I think it is a great idea!

Yes it is great to have an opinion :)
Not to carry this war of 80's vs 90's to ridiculous lengths but I must put
in my final word(s) on the matter.
I know that there was not every song that came out in the 80's was brilliant,
although alot of it was, but even the bad stuff was FUN!!! I think Dale
Bozzio is great - I'd take her anyday over Alanis Morrisette. It's the fun
value that's missing in the 90's. This generation (and sad to say it's
my generation) just seems to parrot the musicians of years past. No one
seems to be original anymore. All these new groups want to be something
from the generation before. Oasis wants to be the Beatles - they don't
even come close but that's what they are "imitating". Marilyn Manson
wants to be the new Alice Cooper. Alanis is trying to be the new Patti
Smith. Elastica is trying to be the 90's Blondie. The Black Crowes
tried to imitate the Stones. Hootie is the 90's version of the Eagles.
Green Day desperately wants to be the new Sex Pistols (not a chance
boys). Brett Anderson of Suede tries to be the new Bowie/Bryan Ferry.
Courtney Love tries to be the new Janis Joplin. Etc, etc, etc... See what I
mean?
I would love to see something totally new and original in rock 'n roll.
Is that possible or have all the ideas been used up already? Are we just
going to see dilutions of originals from years past from now on? Things
have become so watered down already - I hate to think of what the rock
scene will look like 10 years from now.
When Blondie arrived on the music scene they were so fresh and original,
as were the other New Wave groups, and I just don't see that kind of
originality in today's music. Anybody else want to add their 5 cents worth?

Hi Lisa and everyone else:
While we definitely differ in our feelings regarding some musicians, I do agree
with you that the 70's/80's were filled with great music. As a child (er,
liberal usage of that word presumed) of that time (I was born in the early
60's), I'll always be nostalgic for music from the late 70's and early 80's
because those songs will be inextricably linked with my college years. It's
just that I refuse to grow old with the attitude that the "kids" of today can't
do it as well as the kids of my generation. I happen to not like Alanis
Morrisette at all - but despite that I can understand her appeal, and I think
she's a lot more valid than Paula Abdul/Mariah Carey/Whitney Houston. You seem
pessimistic, but I do believe that there is lots of new exciting music being
produced. Wheter it's actually better or worse than music from decades past
seems irrelevant to me.
Oh, and one thing about Dale Bozzio - I see her as a rip-off of Lene Lovich (who
I love), who in turn got a lot of her ideas from Yoko Ono. So you see, it's
actually pretty damn hard to be a complete original in this world. I guess
that's why Debbie is so special.

Are we up to 5 cents now? OK, here's my nickel:
I won't join the debate over 80's vs. 90's rock, because music is a totally
subjective artform--just like any other. I have to agree with Lisa's
statement, though, that 80's music seemed a lot more fun than today's.
Maybe it was because everything was so new and fresh--disco and punk were
dying down, and a new sound was forming. Or maybe it was the outrageous
hairstyles and outfits. Or maybe it was the fact that I was just becoming a
teenager. I don't know, but listening to Alanis whine about an ex-boyfriend
isn't nearly as fun as listening to Dreaming, We Got The Beat, or I Ran.
And by the way, where have all of the synthesizers gone?

I believe this was just a doll that was named Debbie and was blonde, not an
actual Debbie Harry doll, although they might have been trying to
capitalize on Debbie's name. The doll did look like her a bit.

I don't know why but i love this detail:) It's one of those cool things
that "stars" get to do. ... now if Deb had pulled up at the premier in a

Speaking of gossip (as we weren't) those of you bored enough to
check out alt.showbiz.gossip might be interested to know that there is a
Debbie thread along the lines of "Is she a bitch? What happened at
Wigstock?" If I read the FAQ on the website properly, then the whole
Wigstock thing was just a stunt, so the gossipers are gossiping about
nothing.
Also: when Debravation came out i remember alot of fuss being made in
reviews about how Debbie was now "Deborah". And concerts were billed as
such also. Are we supposed to refer to her as Debbie or Deborah? Important
protocol here!

Subject: [DHBIS] The 80s/90s debate
You know, I don't think I've ever seen another "fan list"
that has made me think so much! I love it.
I have to jump in on the women of the 80s/90s debate. I
don't "hate" the women of the 90s, but there aren't that
many that appeal to me the way the great ladies of the 80s
did. I've always thought Pat Benatar had a great voice,
even if most of her lyrics struck me as inane. (Just think
of the high notes she hits on "Heartbreaker"...truly
magnificent, if you can stop yourself from laughing at the
words. Plus she wasn't afraid to hit a high note and hold
it, something I wish Debbie would do more of. "Dreaming"
and "Orchid Club" in my Blondie Top 10, probably because of
those incredible long notes.) For the best of Pat, I think
one needs to listen to her sing other people's stuff. Her
cover of Kate Bush's "Wuthering Heights" is also excellent.
For vocal quality, I prefer her to Madonna any day.
Did anyone see the episode of The Simpsons where Homer goes
into a record store and feels like a dinosaur because he
doesn't know any of the current groups? I could relate only
too well, and I'm only 30. So few groups in recent years
have captured my imagination the way the groups of the late
70s/early 80s have. I've always preferred female vocalists
to male vocalists, and I'm still listening to lots of the
old stuff (on LP no less, simply because the stuff has never
been released on CD).
I do like Corinne Drewery from Swing Out Sister a lot -
she's got class and style. Dolores Riordan's voice (from
the Cranberries) is stunning; I feel it vibrate through
every inch of me when I listen to a CD. I think Bjork has
an amazing voice, but for some reason I can't listen to her
for more than half an hour or so. Johnette from Concrete
Blonde is another favorite, and Sam Phillips won me over a
few years back. For sheer fun (a la the first Blondie
album) Voice of the Beehive never fails.
Still, I don't think I'll ever like them as much as the
early stuff. After reading all the comments here on DHBIS,
it struck me why most of the bands of the 90s turn me off.
THEY HAVE NO SENSE OF HUMOR! THEY TAKE THEMSELVES TOO
SERIOUSLY! Debbie/Blondie always had very clever lyrics,
and some really funny songs ("Rip Her to Shreds" is a riot;
so is "Just Go Away.") Think of Lene Lovich and
"Telepathy"...Cyndi Lauper and "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun."
Dale Bozio's voice may have been thinner than paper, but ya
gotta admit, those songs were a lot of fun. Same with Teri
Nunn (remember "Sex"?--what a send-up). These were people
having fun on stage, fun recording...it made you feel good
to listen to them. When you listen to Alannis and lots of
these other bands, you just want to go into the garage and
commit suicide.
It's ironic that Siouxsie & The Banshees should break up
just as their kind of dark, brooding music is topping the
charts. Don't get me wrong, I've followed Siouxise for 15
years, but I don't think I've ever seen the woman crack a
smile in all that time! Still, what a voice on that
woman....
"They can still see you, singing on the corner, singing
songs that never fade away...."

Hey, there ARE a few newer bands that have fabulous senses of humour, most
notably Elastica. Absolutely HILARIOUS at times, but you have to listen to
the lyrics carefully and get past Justine's Cockney snarl. "Stutter" is an
absolutely wonderous tune, with tongue planted firmly in cheek, and
"Vaseline" (while it's really just a re-working of Blondie's "Sunday Girl")
is the best song about absolutely NOTHING that I've heard in quite a while.
No Doubt is also fairly amusing, but I don't have their album so I can't
give a blow-by-blow.
However, IN GENERAL, I am inclined to agree that there isn't enough hilarity
and light-heartedness in today's music. That's like the big goal of my
little band, to get back to some of the spirit of the fun stuff from the
early '80s, although we do have a few little "mellow/contemplative/Gin
Blossoms-y" songs that my guitarist wrote... I remember when we first
formed, I said "You know the song 'Johnny Are You Queer?' by Josie Cotton?
You know how it's a totally silly song that sounds a bit like '50s pop only
with a lot more spunk and attitude and innuendo? And you know Blondie's
version of 'Denis'? THAT'S what I want us to sound like!"

adding her 2 cents and single-handedly trying to revive the '80s :)

Oh good one! I almost forgot that.
I also remember that when Vincent Vero was still working at EMI or
Chrysalis, he was listed (maybe as producer or something, I forget)
on the credits for compilation records they put out - Platinum Collection
and their P.B. one, the name of which I do not know. I thought about
buying it but didn't since I have the 1-CD compilation they put out

Subject: [DHBIS] Debbie's Manager
Hi all:
In the newest issue of Details (the music issue with the singers out of Bush and
Garbage on it), there's an article written by Bebe Buell about her times as a
rock chick. She mentions that she's now a manager, and her clients include
Debbie. Is this so? I should mention, for those that don't know, that Bebe is
Liv Tyler's mother. There's a small black and white picture of Debbie at Bebe's
wedding to a musician who's name escapes me (Coyote Something).

In the current issue of Rolling Stone there is a small but positive review
of Heavy. They mention something to the effect of "the real aces of the
film are the actors including Deborah Harry, blah blah blah"
Also, in the current issue of Details, there is an article on Bebe Buell
which mentions that Debbie is one of her clients. There is also a picture
from 1992 of Debbie at Bebe's wedding with a very 40s hairdo.

For those who'd like to know how Blondie fared in the Memorial Day Top 500 of
WFNX (a Boston alternative rock radio station), here's the results:
1) Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit
2) Smiths - How Soon Is Now
3) Breeders - Cannonball
4) Janes Addiction - Been Caught Stealing
5) Violent Femmes - Blister In the Sun
and, further on down the countcown
340) Blondie - Rapture
453) Blondie Hanging on th Telephone
I've no idea if this list was generated by listener's votes, or by the station
itself. But, considering how short some people's memories are (listeners and
programmers), that's better than I expected. The list was glutted with tons of
Nirvana, Pearl Jam, REM and U2 titles.

Her manager booked it but she didn't know about it till after, and didn't
have the time in her schedule to fly to LA and back. It might be rescheduled
but not in the near future because of the JP's tour.

Television stations and networks have to give TV Guide at least 3 weeks'
notice for a listing to get into the magazine, and since Debbie's
appearance on Tom Snyder's show was in TVG, I'm guessing her spot was booked
no later than May 16 or so.

Last September in Northampton (Massachusetts) I talked to Debbie before her
performance with the JP's. She was looking for a light, and I was hanging
around outside the club. I didn't have a lighter or matches, but I did get to
chat with Debbie, thanks to her need for a smoke. I really wish Debbie didn't
smoke, and told her so! Later on, I thought about how moronic I must have
sounded (as if it was some late breaking news bulletin that cigarette smoke
causes disease), but, what the hell. Debbie ended up getting her cigarette lit
(from the lighter in the JP's van), and I got to talk with her for a little
while

I have heard that Debbie is as teeny as 5'2" without shoes on, and being
kind of short myself (5'5") I can tell you that she IS shorter than me, but
not by a whole lot. I didn't actually get to go up and speak to her when I

the dressing rooms near where I was and I was told she was a bit more
vertically challenged than I am. :)

While I was excited to see Debbie in a starring role in a movie, I was kinf
od concerned that she'd pick up the smoking thing from the character, and I
guess I was right. Debbie's character in that movie ALWAYS had a cigarette
in her mouth, it was like a running joke or something, very strange, like
part of the design of the film rather then character development. But at
the end of the movie the character threw the cigarettes away, along with
the rest of her "former" life, and it was cool.
She radiated a sweetness and a softness in that movie that belied her
character's jaded life. While the plot sucked, the movie is still really
cool because of Debbie's (and the supporting actor's) performances.
About Debbie not going to the gym, I know just how you feel. My friends
were yelling at me last week to join their gym, and I'm dragging my feet. I
wanna be in shape but I don't have the motivation to work out... :p

I agree it is excellent especially as they had _big_ shoes to fill

An irrelevant note is that Dan Erlewine,of the Stewart-McDonald Guitar Shop
Supply and countless guitar magazine columns was also an Iguana and I think
either took the drum throne over from Iggy or vice versa.

Apologies, about 12 or so old mails went out today for some strange reason.
Ignore these please.
Hey, while I'm here,I am looking for someone to collaborate with in 1996
incarnation of my band Chernobyl Cocktail. I am mostly into dance music
although I like a lot of older forms of music as well. Music I like
includes Debbie (no, you're kidding), Pet Shop Boys, 808 State, Nina Hagen,
Stock Aitken Waterman, B-52's, Marlene Dietrich, Nick Heyward, DIDDY!,
Ultra Vivid Scene, Pansy Division, Kraftwerk... um, the usual. Hehe.
I am hoping to find a gay out male singer in the Phoenix / Tempe /
Scottsdale / Glendale / Laveen area, although straight and/or female
singers are welcome to contact me.

I think not!. She was smoking on stage! at a couple of Gigs during her last

I have seen pictures of her smoking from the early days.
I will be surprised if she smokes less than 20 and a Smoke of the other

always assumed that Debbie smoked and indulged in whatever she fancied in that

hard.....it's definitely(rightly or wrongly)-one of the things I was attracted

I certainly agree with Lisa's comments. The singers today lack class and
any decent lyrics. However, another blonde is worthy of note JANET
GARDENER of Vixen (anyone remember them?). A splendid singer but not
quite in Debbie's class.
Is there anything planned to celebrate Debbie's bithday (July 1st)?
Any comments?

I taped the Talkin Jazz programme at 3.00 am this morning. The second half (12
minutes) consists of an interview with the Jazz Passengers, and extracts from a
couple of live performances. Debbie is not in the interview sequence, but she does
sing in a couple of the extracts. The venue was the Jazz Cafe in London, so I
guess it must have been recorded in February.
I'm sorry to say that the style of music didn't appeal to me much, but I'd still
try to get to a show just to see Debbie. By the way, she still looks great, but
maybe a little different from how I remember her from the early 1980s!
The programme will be repeated tonight at 8.OO pm BST (2100 CET), and again on

with the full title of "Dancing in the Street: A Rock and Roll History". Apparently
it is a co-production with WGBH Boston, and it has already been shown on PBS in the
US. Did anyone on the list see it? Was it any good?
A trailer I caught the other day said it would feature recent interviews with key
rock stars, and a photo of Debbie Harry appeared briefly on the screen (among many
others). If she is in the programme, it will probably be in part 8 (on August 3, if
my calculation is correct). Radio Times (programme listing magazine, published by
the BBC) describes part 8, entitled "No Fun", as "How punk [photo of Patti Smith]
and reggae [photo of Bob Marley] formed an unlikely alliance in the drive to
cleanse rock of its worst excesses". (The "excesses" were Iggy Pop, the Velvet
Underground, David Bowie and Jim Morrison, who feature in part 7.)
Should be interesting!

Years ago I read this question in one of those Sunday entertainment supplements
that comes with the Sunday paper. It was one of those columns where people ask
questions about different celebrities. Somebody asked why Debbie had that
material tied around her arm on the Parallel Lines cover, and if it meant
anything. The answer was no, it didn't mean anything, it was just the belt to
her dress and she thought it looked more interesting on her arm than around her
waist.
I have no idea about the green boots, but they sure add color to all that black
and white, don't they?

Subject: [DHBIS] Ripped Her to Shreads!
I just went to see Heavy at the Film Forum to see how different the final
version is. About eight co-workers saw it and all but one liked it a lot.
Everyone thought Debbie was impressive. Hopefully, the magazine I am Art
Director for will do a feature on the Lighting Designer which means big
pictures of Debbie, possibly even a cover shot if I have anything to say
about it... and I WILL have something to say...
Anyway, I was extremely upset to find what I think totalled to four of
Debbie's scenes "Ripped to Shreads"!
#1 She hands Victor a Mounds candy bar and says, "You used to love these as
a kid"
#2 She makes a special cocktail and everyone is dancing around and laughing
#3 Her dialogue and a good close up of her face in the Airport parking lot scene
#4 Her final shot is cut shorter.
Basically, all scenes where she shows signs of being a likeable person or
any kind of nice gesture to anyone else. These things may seem small, but
added to the character development. Even though Debbie is definately the
bitchy one, it gave her a more human side. It also helped explain some of
the reasoning behind other scenes that were left in. Maybe I am just biased
but for God's sake why did it have to be HER scenes? I didn't notice
anything else missing. Then again, I probably didn't pay quite as much
attention to everyone else.
So, I think we all have to write to the Director, pleading to restore it to
it's original version BEFORE it goes to video. It couldn't hurt, no?

Subject: [DHBIS] Sedated in the Eighties
As everyone knows, some of Blondie's songs are picked to be in the best
of the 80's albums. These usually include Heart of Glass, Rapture,
Atomic,
etc. Well, SEDATED IN THE EIGHTIES No. 4 has Hanging on the Telephone
live, but there is a mystery to it. Read the CD insert I typed up
below.
If it was somewhere in Texas around the release of Debravation, that
should be a big help.
Mike
"Hanging on the Telephone" (live)- Blondie
Though her name has become synonymous with New York City and the DIY
punk ethos. Debbie Harry's early- and mid-eighties material is more
often touted under a different heading; she is credited (courtesy of
the sultry #1 smash "Heart of Glass") with ushering in the 80's and
the subsequent tidal that was still "new wave". Still, her roots-
and her accomplices- have always been steeped in punk; this live
version of the Jack Lee classic, "Hanging On The Telephone" is a
suitable snippet of the frenetic energy that powered BLONDIE for
almost a decade. In true punk fashion, the emphasis is on the
delivery- more guitar, more vocals, more volume...and faster. (The
band sounds as if the 2:23 it takes to get the song out is two minutes
too long.) The combination makef for a raucous moment in Blondie
history.
Unfortunately, the master lacks a specific date and venue of this
performance. (Surely, the true fan is intuitive enough to place it
chronologically, if not geographically.) Debbie has released 3 solo
albums in the wake of the Blondie split-up, most recently 1993's
DEBRAVATION. The original band members are all but lost in the annals
of time, save for Clem Burke, who recently joined the reunited
Plimsouls
for a series of LA performances and an impending album.

If it's the one I saw, there are some very short clips of Debbie back in
the early days and one or maybe two interview sequences, also very short.
There is also a short interview sequence with Mike Chapman (producer of PL,
ETTB, AA and TH as well as Debbie's DD&B).
The program moved at a lightning pace, but I felt they did not give Blondie
very much recognition at all, and perhaps gave more time to people that
they had more stock footage of or whatever.

Since everyone's talking about the "Parallel Lines" outfit, thought I might
as well share my version of it. :)
Last Halloween, I dressed up as Debbie (and got the usual "Who are you
supposed to be, Madonna?" comments). My outfit consisted of my new and
improved blond wig which resembles Deb's hair in the "Tide Is High" video
(with my own black hair trailing out the bottom for that reverse-roots
look), nifty black sunglasses, and since I didn't have a white dress, I
opted for a black one which is in almost identical style to the "Parallel
Lines" dress. I tied a black scarf around my left arm, also. My date for
the evening was dressed as sort of a cross between Simon Le Bon and Adam
Ant, in a pirate shirt and makeup, so we looked like a great new wave duo.

Okay, I just got The Platinum Collection ($18.95 used, but new condition)....
In the liner notes for "Dreaming," Clem says that he thinks he over-played
the drums and how it might had been a bigger hit otherwise. Everyone
agreed. :) Well, *I* think the song probably wouldn't be as good if he
hadn't "over played" the drums. But, then again, that may just be me....
A drummer myself. ;)
Anyone else think that *less* drums in "Dreaming" just wouldn't be right?

does get a little much but hey ... take me back in time to those punk

and while i am talking about ETTB, has anyone noticed something
different on the cover of the european CD versus the american CD?
the words Eat To The Beat on the american are black on pink while the

some of the versions of the songs on the european CD's are different

Simon (and all),
I basically just post what news shows up on the list to the news page. So I
can't confirm any of the shows or television appearances. But the
information seems to be mostly correct. I also have some other sources for
information and post that news as appropriate.
Erwin (and all): I did update the page with the following:
North Sea Jazz Festival Show Cancelled
The show of Debbie Harry and the Jazz Passengers at The North Sea Jazz
Festival in The Hague is unfortunately cancelled. The organisation said
that they were negociating with their agent some time ago, but that it
didn't work out. (Petra)
when I heard about the North Sea show being cancelled. And I have updated
the Phoenix Music festival to be listed as Stratford upon Avon instead of
London today.
That's all for now!

I purchased my CD copy of "Eat To The Beat" in the US in about 1993. This
is not an import. On the front cover, the background behind the picture of
Chris, Debbie, and Frank is black with white criss-cross lines making little
boxes. Up in the right hand corner, at a diagonal, are the words "Eat To
The Beat" in all caps, pink letters. So, as far as I know, the American
cover has the pink on black, not black on pink as stated above. I have seen
the original LP in record stores and it looks exactly the same as my CD.
Inside my copy of "Beautiful: The Remix Album" where they show all the album
covers, the only difference I can see is that instead of having the letters
be pink right on the background, they put a pink stripe across the upper
right corner and reversed the letters out to black inside the stripe.
On a totally different note, someone mentioned Debbie's first band, Wind In
The Willows. I have to say that they don't get a lot of credit in her
career highlights. I have a copy of their self-titled album from 1968, and
I think it's a TON of fun to listen to. There's some great tunes on there,
especially their version of Roger Miller's "My Uncle Used To Love Me But She
Died," and I love the songs "Moments Spent," "Uptown Girl" (not the Billy
Joel song), "The Friendly Lion," and "She's Fantastic And She's Yours."
Debbie sings the main lead part on "Djini Judy" and she's never sounded so
innocent and unspoiled as she does on that song. I've heard that some
people find the music trite and cheesy, but that's probably because they
really get into either Debbie's punk or dance stuff and can't fathom her
doing folk/pop/psychedelic stuff. Having been weaned on Peter, Paul, and
Mary, I guess I really like this album. Is it true that they actually put
out a second one, and if so is that one still available too? I had to get
my CD of this one as an import from France on DropOut Records.

I need help with a Deb-oddity...
Last week I bought my second copy of 'The Ultimate Blonde' bootleg
CD. It turned out to be the standard CD as listed in the Web pages. I had
bought my first copy several months ago, without knowing it wasn't listed
by Louis. I'd like to know if it's some sort of fake or not. Only the
sleeves and prints on the CDs are different, the recordings are the same.
The 'already known' CD was edited by Live Storm, it has a brown
sleeve showing some sort of nuclear clouds. The catalogue code numbers
printed on the back sleeve are LSCD 51529. It was made in Italy in 1994.
The printed side of the CD shows a yellow Z-shaped flash on a black
background.
The other 'Ultimate Blonde' has BW picture of Debbie on the right
side of the cover sleeve and its title is written vertically on a yellow
strip on the left side of the sleeve. It reads DEBORAHARRY the Ultimate
Blonde. The catalogue number is DHCD1. It was edited by Pine Records, made
in the EEC, and copyrighted in 1991. The printed side of the CD has a light
gray background with some yellow printings on it.
Is there someone here who could tell me if this other CD is some
kind of pirate duplicate of the one already known in the web pages? Was it
ever found by somebody else on the list? Is it rare? Anyway my own copy
should be: I had it autographed by Debbie :D
Hope someone knows more about this than I do...
Jer.
PS: In any case someone continues this thread, please don't expect quick
answers from me. I'm not here really often. But I will eventually answer if
you have questions.

I agree, less drumming on "Dreaming" just would not make the song as great
as it is. In fact, that's my favorite track on ETTB. The drums are
awesome and powerful. Clem, in my opinion, is one of the greatest
drummers I've ever heard. I bought the Eurythmic's CD's "In the Garden"

Hey everyone,
I also bought my ETTB CD back in 1992 and the ETTB title is in pink
letters on a black background with white lines crossing (just like the
vinyl cover). Last week, however, I was at a music shop and I came across
an ETTB cd. The cover was the same as the album w/o ETTB in pink letters
and Blondie in yellow. Rather the top was cut off and there was a white
border around the picture. Blondie and ETTB were in the top portion of
the border in black letters. I checked to see how different this CD was
from mine but the selections were the same. The only difference was that
this was not made by Chrysalis. I forgot the record company name but
I'll check the next time I go.

Her "Diana Price" character in WISEGUY sings a few bars of it at the

commercially released (although we all know that a revamped "Brite Side"

I was GIVEN a copy of it by a record store proprietor when I was about six
years old.I think I threw a fit because they had no Roger Miller records or
something.Unfortunately I threw it out in junior high.

Several years ago I called up Artie Kornfeld-his office phone number was
in an industry publication-and he said that to his recollection there was
no second WITW album. He did say there might have been a couple of tracks
laid down, but nothing got mixed.I think he'd remember because he did a solo
album that had a cover almost certainly by the same artist(it was pink/red
instead of blue) shortly thereafter. At one time Love Records in Kansas City
had at least a half dozen of them.
Another oddity they had was a reunion album by Randy and the Rainbows,of
"Denis(e)" fame.It had a rewrite called "Debbie" that had to be a tribute
to you-know-who.

It could have been because she did it,and several other standards, for the
Wiseguy thing.
I didn't think it had been released:but maybe the easy listening people
have some kind of connection.I heard "Calmarie" and "Dancing Down The Moon"
in public places before either was publicly released.

Hello all,
As I watch the American Bandstand reruns on VH-1 and anxiously await the
Blondie episodes (I think I've seen it five times already!), there's one
thing that always catches my attention - Debbie doen't seem to be too
happy. The first thing that came into mind was that she hates the fact
that she has to lip sync "Heart of Glass" and especially "One Way Or
Another", which I may add is too difficult to do because Debbie's voice at
the end is superimposed with Debbie singing another chorus at the end. Us
Blondie and Debbie fans know the songs too well to be fooled by American
Bandstand's attempt to make its viewers believe their guests are actually
singing live. In fact, I don't think I have ever seen a guest perform
live on the show. It's all been lip syncing. Why didn't they let Debbie
and the band perform live? She's great live and I think she would have
had more fun doing it (as she always does!)

Joaquin
===============================================================================
It is really getting hard to stomach this lip sync issue. Obviuosly Blondie is
one of the greatest bands ever, but not every band is perfect. And one of their
imperfections is the fact that Debbie has never been and probably never will be
great at lipsyncing. She is a far better live singer than she will ever be at
lipsyncing. You can't blame American Bandstand for that. No one sings live on
that show, why should they have made the exception for that performance. I
did not sense that she was upset at all. They could have easily turned down the
performance if it was a problem. They never would have. Lipsyncing aside, that
AB performance is (or should be) considered one of performances that put
Blondie on the U.S. map of music. It was the first time they were performing
a U.S. top hit in the U.S. Obvious the performance did not hurt and of their
career's. Not one bit.
If you look at all of the Blondie/Debbie Harry videos, the lipsyncing problem
is quite evident, should they have never made a video because of this?
Of couse not! I think we should enjoy the lipsyced performances and videos
for all they're worth (priceless), accept the lipsyncing flaw, and move on.

On an interesting side note, in one of the episodes I saw recently Dick Clark
does the interview with some band after their performance and states words to
the effect of "everyone knows that the performers on AB lip sync, we make no
bones about that......" I was very suprised to hear him state that, anyone
else recall seeing this?

American Bandstand for a couple of reasons: One, it would be too easy for the
bands to turn the occasion into a 20-minute jam session that might include foul
language, and two, the show was about hit records and lots of bands don't sound
nearly as good live as they do in the studio. I'm sure a lot more records were
sold by a lot of groups thanks to the lip-syncing rule.
And if anyone thinks Debbie's performance was less than perfect, I guess they
haven't seen the Johnny Lydon/Public Image episode. Johnny didn't bother trying
to lip sync at all--it was a riot!

Hello gang,
Well, I got to see *Heavy* this past weekend.
An interesting flick, but not exactly a pulse pounder, if
you know what I mean. The pace is very, very, S-L-O-W. But
who cares about that? Debbie's in it!
All kidding aside, Debbie really is *very* good in the film.
She has many of the film's comic lines and delivers them in
a bitchy way that is *quite* funny. There was a big
contingent of DH fans in the audience that night; when her
name came on the credits at the end, there was a big round
of applause, hooting, and hollering.
For people who don't know, Debbie plays an over-the-hill,
slutty waitress/barmaid named Delores. She's supposed to be
haggard, harsh, difficult, and worn out, but lonely and
looking for love. As such the make-up people tried to give
her a hard look around the eyes and mouth. And it worked
most of the time. However, if DH does not want to look
beautiful, she must NEVER smile. At a few points in the
movie, she flashes that sunburst smile and all the makeup
people's efforts are for naught.
I'm really glad that Debbie is getting good reviews, and
hope to see more of her in the movies. Of course, it's not
a substitute for new music (come on, Debbie! - we're waiting
for the new CD), but I guess it's the next best thing.

Subject: [DHBIS] Heavy Review
In the June 28/July 5, 1996 issue of Entertainment Weekly, the following
review appeared:
TO DINE FOR - A timid chef falls hard for Liv Tyler in "Heavy"
Directors Bernardo Bertolucci with "Stealing Beauty" and now James Mangold
with HEAVY (Cinepix) use Liv Tyler as a stunning young woman, who plunked
down among a group of ordinary people, changes their lives. In HEAVY, the
life changed is that of Victor (Pruitt Taylor Vince) a big, shy guy who works
in a dingy diner run by his mother, played by Shelley Winters. Victor is
practically mute with self-consciousness over his weight, and when he falls
in love at first sight with Tyler's Callie, his eyes begin to wiggle back and
forth with ardor.
Mangold, who also wrote the script, has made a modern-day "Marty", a
kitchen-sink drama that doesn't conscent to its characters. If the drama is
occasionally slow and obvious, the actors aren't: Vince is touchingly
vulnerable as the heavy romantic, while Tyler demonstrates that she can do
more than pout. Winters, these days most content going way over the top as
Roseanne's grandma on TV, is admirably restrained here. Mangold even gets a
nuanced little performance of out Evan Dando, lead singer of the Lemonheads;
he plays Callie's sullen, guitar-strumming boyfriend. The director must have
a knack for working with rock stars: Deborah Harry, once of Blondie, is best
of all, playing a blowsy waitress who sees Callie as a cruel threat - to her
livelihood, and to Victor's fragile feelings.
In addition, Entertainment Weekly gave the film a B+. It is only too
bad the release is so limited. Also, Deborah appeared for a short interview
on Much Music. They interviewed the director as well. Deborah said that her
role and the film are "very real".

I just got in from the seeing Debbie with the Jazz Passengers.
It was great! Fantastic! Lots of fun!
We had a table about 25 feet from the stage; so had a great
view of Debbie. She had her hair back in a severe bun, but had
lots of blonde wisps around her face. She was wearing a short
black dress with a longer sheath-like dress underneath
The openning act, Broun Fellinis, started at 9 PM and played for
a little over an hour. They were a kinda afro-acid jazz group - OK,
not really my style. Especially since I was eagerly awaiting the
main attraction!
Debbie and the JP came on about 10:38 and played for about
a hour and a half - 12:10 AM. I felt kinda sorry for the JP as the
audience's attention was more on Debbie than them. Debbie
seemed sensitive to that as when the JP were doing their music
that didn't include her, she graciously sat on a stool on the side
of the stage. I saw her last time she was in town with the JP, two
years ago, and this time she was much more relaxed, having fun,
and really getting into the music. They did a lot of stuff from a new
album that the leader of the JP said would be out in October - with
Debbie doing a lot of the vocals!
The highlight was Debbie's rendition of "Imitation of a Kiss" - a
lounge-version, very little music and mostly Debbie. It really
showed off her voice. The crowd when wild when they did "One
Way Or Another" - lots of fun! And a very jazzy "The Tide is High".
They had two encores. But seemed far too short of a concert,
but definitely worth it.

" Blonde No More, Debbie Harry has Few Regrets"
Debbie Harry, the glorious sex symbol/singer of Blondie fame, is no longer
the platinum bombshell of her late - 70's peak. But she's still here, still
glorious, still fascinatingly eclectic. Her latest ventures are as a jazz
interpreter with Jazz Passengers, and she appears on a new CD-ROM game as
the proprietor of an Egyptian themed hotel. (Whatever piques her interest,
Debbie's willing to give it a go).
Harry, now glamorously brunet, is the cover goddess of Genre Magazine's big
"Mo' Music" issue, interviewed by Peter McQuaid. She responds to McQuad's
question about how she just missed super-stardom: "At the stage where I was
supposed to blast off, I just evaporated. But I've stayed in the art world,
and in that respect it's kind of lovely."
She insists she wouldn't burn even one of her records and has few career
regrets Her motto is "I am not afraid". Clearly she is not.

It mentioned Debbie, so therefor it was relevant. And to imply that

Hi everybody,
I was watching the "Best of Blondie" video last weekend and I was
wondering what happened to the start of some of the videos? Is there a
beginning "I saw you standing on the corner..." to the "X Offender"
video? What is the beginning of the "Atomic" video like? Or the start
of "Tide"? Is there really a vid for "Rip her to shreads"? This song
was in one of the "Nightmare on elm st." movie sountrack, but the movie
had "In the Flesh." Oh well. Guess "Rip" looked better on the sountrack
and "In the Flesh" was better in the movie.

Well, you took the risk...
If we keep all the pro-homosexual parties/bars off the mailing list, I will
have to insist that we keep all the pro-heterosexual parties/bars off the
list too. This will leave us with no concert dates, and very little Debbie
gossip.
"This" is happening quite often now because Debbie happens to be quite
popular in the gay community now. She's done Wigstock for three years in a
row, and has done lots of gay club dates and benefits. And as you probably
know, she did do Gay Pride just a few weeks ago. It seems to be a close
interest of hers, for whatever personal reasons. Debbie's always had a big
gay following, and in the mid-eighties up until now, they seemed to be her
biggest supporters.
I do think most of the posts on this list have been about Debbie or at
least referenced Debbie in a big way, and I certainly read all kinds of
stuff I don't wanna read on other mailing lists. The particular message you
were commenting on did have some Debbie content in it, and was perfectly
acceptable.
Debbie has a large gay following, a lot of people on the list are gay or
gay friendly. A lot of people on the list are straight (or straight
friendly!) too, so what.
If someone wants to advertise the Knitting Factory as a "predominantly
straight bar and concert venue", well then I say all for truth in
advertising. I certainly don't refer to "Heavy" as a "straight" movie,
although Liv Tyler is the love interest of the male lead and not Evan
Dando.
Gee, Debbie sings about "Denis", isn't that a french dude? A guy!? How
straight of her. Gee, Debbie's singing "You keep on telling me those lies:
Still going out with other guys" in "Liar Liar". Is she talking about her
boyfriend going out with other guys? And just what is "Kung Fu Cindy Sue,
oh I wanna get close to you, you're my Kung Fu Girl" all about?
Debbie herself said "I was just sort of lucky I guess because I've always
had friends of all types and all sexual persuasions. And they're all
wonderful people. People are people and the more interesting they are, the
more varied they are, the more charming I find them."
Try the Nina Hagen mailing list if you don't want to hear about anything
gay... but be prepared to talk about Hare Krishnas, obscure treatments for
AIDS, drug philosophy and even complete messages in German, none of which I
am particularly interested in. I am still on the list though, because I
like Nina and I can just skip over what I'm not interested in.
I don't think my message was out of line. It is qualified by:
A) A desire to meet DEBBIE fans on the list (gay or straight) and
B) A few DEBBIE list things I had lying around.
Yeah yeah, I did a plug for my friend George and my upcoming zine. I
slipped it in with other Debbie specific info and the noise to signal ratio
was acceptable, I thought. I was trying to be funny, I guess some people
didn't get the joke.
End of subject, I would think. If anyone wants to continue this thread,
please email me (or each other) privately. This is too serious for such a
fun list, plus now it really is getting way off topic, and as moderator I
must put an end to it, no matter how interesting/uninteresting it is.

Thank you to the person who reprinted the Liz Smith article! I just went
out and got the July August #40 Issue of GENRE magazine and there is Debbie
on the cover!!!! She hasn't had a good cover since Surface. Is it really
bad to mention that it is a g*y publication? Sorry but I figure I should,
otherwise straight friends on the list may not necessarily be able to find
it. Anyway....there is a better shot inside and an interview about Heavy.
Also, there is a one page interview by Joey Arias with a pic of her and
Chi Chan in color in the summer issue of PAPER magazine. Quick, Quick! Run
to your local newstands!

I have a question for anyone out there who has a real good memory or good
newspaper clips:
(warning: heterosexual content!!!)
I first started going out with my significant other back in 1979. Now you
all could care less about that, but stay with me for a moment. Our first
"date" was at a Blondie concert in Asbury Park, NJ in July 1979.
My question: people keep asking us when our "anniversary" is (we never
bothered to get married) and we keep saying "oh, that Blondie concert in
Asbury Park".
Does anybody know the exact date? Can't remember who played with Blondie I
think it was the Good Rats or someone dull like that. I remember Debbie
spent a fair amount of time rolling around the stage wearing something that
looked like a plastic garbage bag.
thanks!

Hi Everyone!
I am desperately seeking a copy of a certain mix of
"Sweet And Low" on CD maxi-single format. It is the
12" remix by Phil Harding and the Sire/RedEye/Reprise
product code # is 9-21492-2. I have this on vinyl
format and the quality is very poor. There is another
CD maxi-single of "Sweet And Low" that was released
in the US and this is not the one I am looking for.
However, I have two of these if anyone is willing to
trade for the one I need. I have been looking for this
for a long time and if anyone can help me locate it
I would be totally happy and willing to trade or
purchase it. If anyone knows where I can get a
copy, PLEASE email me and note ATTENTION

which appear on the desired CD:

Valerie,
If you don't get an answer from anyone who knows the exact date of
the concert, you might try looking in a May or June issue of Rolling
Stone magazine. They used to print in each issue the summer concert dates
of various bands. Whether they did this in 1979, I don't know. But
it's worth a trip to a library. I've gone to the library at the
college I work at to look up all the Blondie stories I could find,
but many issues had pages ripped out. But I did find at least one
issue in the late 70's with Blondie on the cover. Good luck!

Am I the only one this happens to?
You know all the material and what you think of it. If someone asks,
you wouldn't have that hard of a time listing what you really like,
what you sort of like, what you don't like.
Then, sometime you get to see (or maybe only hear, for the unfortunates who
weren't old enough) the live version. Instantly your opinion is radically
changed forever! For me, I've only experienced a positive change.
This happened to me in 1982 with Union City Blue. I thought it was
average, you know, take it or leave it. Everything is now separated
into three sections of reality: Then, the three minutes I thought I'd
die, and everything thereafter! That was so amazing there are no words.

I definately can say my opinion of certain songs have been affected by
hearing or seeing them in a different light.
Hearing "Rain" live made me love the song ten times more than I did before.
Seeing the video for "Strike Me Pink" put a whole new feeling into it that
made it my favorite from Debravation...
I had heard Heart of Glass, but when I saw the video for the first time on
Solid Gold 79, that was the turning point and life was no longer the same.

Speaking of that show, remember the version of Call Me she did on it?
I didn't get it on videotape, though, until 1984 June 26.

Recently, on MTV, they where doing a BARB WIRE special, and one scene they

thank you!! I remembered it was the first week or so of July but could
not remember exactly. I remember that we saw the concert and then ended
up wandering around Asbury Park all night as we missed the last bus
back. We went into various bars and ended up in an 24-hour diner which
was most interesting at 4 a.m....quite a congregation of various
denizens of the night!
hope you get all the dates posted sometime! Actually I am a good typist
