OK, those of you who are concerned about Debbie not getting enough air time.
Take Five. There's an upshot to all of this. Do we really want SABRINA taking
that much time from Debbie Harry's other obligations? I don't think so. They
can have her every fourth Sunday afternoon for filming as far as I'm concerned.
The rest of the time she and her band Blondie (Remember them?) need to be
writing and preparing for the best album of their career!! Besides, if Debbie
goes on tour, who could possibly replace her on Sabrina, uhhhh, Not Anyone, Not
now, Not Ever!! Consider the cameos as a delightful and delectable occasional
treat offered up to us by the Queen of the USA, Debbie Harry -- Nothing more,
nothing less.

TO BARRY (DHBIS):

Come on Barry, give us the details. I know you are holding out!!! :)
Even if it's simple info like, the tape was moved from shelve A to Shelve B
because Shelve A needed to be dusted, would be important information to me.

I think whatever exposure Debbie gets is good. Sure it was a small part but
you have to start somewhere. Soon EVERYONE will love her and we'll be seeing
Debbie everywhere (tv, movies, radio, toys, cereal boxes). We just have to be
patient and we'll all be rewarded!!!!

Folks,
I agree with Deron-HALSIC Giuliani 100%. Debbie's work with the band
should always be foremost. This is where the full force of Debbie's talent
can be brought to the world. It's great seeing her on television and in
films, but I'd trade all of it for just one of her songs.

I thought "Sabrina, the Teenaged Witch" was relatively cute for one of
ABC's "TGIF" programs. These all seem to be greared to kids or families, so
I don't ever expect too much from them. It was good to see Debbie though,
even for such a brief appreance. Hopefully the Fox-tv movie she's making
will bring more of Debbie to the small screen. Just one more step in the
glorious Debbie Revolution!

PS. I don't mean this to sound like a plug, but I just got one of Bob
Sellstedt's custom-made Deborah Harry Dolls(the black dress version)
and it is fantastic!! It's my favorite Debbie item now and any other
Deb-head out there should really look into to getting one. The box alone is
really something to see. I guess this has turned into a plug. You
will all have to forgive me, I'm just excited about my new toy!!

I saw that Debbie's picture is featured in Rolling Stone's Woman of Rock

thought that Rolling Stone gave that much credit to Debbie so her admission
in the calendar is pretty impressive.

Folks,
I whole heartedly agree." Rolling Stone" and other mainstream music
magazines have never given Blondie and Debbie any kind of credit for what
they accomplished. Just looking at my collection of Debbie magazine covers
shows that fluff like "People" and "Cosmopolitan" gave them more coverage.
These articles were mostly concerned more with Debbie's position as a sex
symbol than with the music she and her co-horts were making.
I will tell anyone who cares to listen that Blondie were responsible for
changing the face of music in the United States as much as any band that
ever existed. I think one reason they don't get any respect was because the
"punk scene" was so quick to blast any band that became popular because
record companies were looking for who was going to be the "Beatles of Punk"
and any band that they latched onto was considered "commercial" or worse,
"sell-outs". I'm so sick of hearing reasonably intelligent people say that
Blondie had great potential but sold-out by doing a disco song("Heart of
Glass"). This song was a natural progression in their music and fit quite
nicely into "New Wave". Nobody has ever called the Talking Heads or Elvis
Costello sell-outs because they progressed beyond 3-chord punk songs.
I'm sorry to have gone on so long. The list will have to forgive me
because the whole "re-birth of Blondie" really has me pumped up and I've
been wearing my fan status on my sleeve lately. Blondie has always been my
favorite band and my biggest influence musically and it's very satisfying
to see others start to appreciate them too.

Considering I paid nearly $20 each from the distributor for my copies I'd
say these are excellent prices. "The Best of Blondie" is a must have; but
you may be slightly dissapointed in "Blondie Live". For one, it's only
about 55 minutes long and secondly, it really isn't Blondie at their peak.
This concert was really near the end, and they just seem to be going
through the motions. Of course, it is one of the few commercially released
Blondie live performances, so that alone makes it worth having. And, of
course, Blondie at their lowest still beats ninety-nine percent of what
you'll see on MTV in a given day.

Subject: [DHBIS] Your First Debbie/Blondie Experience?

Date: Sat, 5 Oct 1996 05:34:57 -0500

Folks,
I was just going to relate my first Debbie/Blondie experience with the
list in the hopes that others would come forth with their stories:
I first came across Debbie in the singles bin at a local store called
Newsome's. It was really a head-shop, but I was too young to know anything
about that at the time. My little brother, Steven, actually had to loan me
the money to buy the "Call Me" single. I always had spent my money on the
"Top Ten" singles, but the black and white image of Debbie beckoning from
the picture-cover of "Call Me" just spoke to me and I had to have it.
Later on, I got my first stereo and the first album I got was "Eat To The
Beat" and shortly thereafter, "Parralel Lines".
Hell, even my birthday cake, on my 13th birthday, was a recreation of the

Subject: Re: [DHBIS] Your First Debbie/Blondie Experience?

This is gonna real give away my age here, but my first experience seeing
Debbie and just going nuts was when she hosted "The Muppet Show." I
remember asking my mom who the pretty lady was, and she said, "Oh, she's in
Blondie. They're a punk band," and I was fascinated about finding out what
"punk" was, etc. I thought she had such an incredible voice and was so
funny. Around that same time, I would hear lots and lots of Blondie songs
played on the little record player by fellow students at my daycare center
(god, I REALLY sound like I'm about 5 years old RIGHT NOW the way I'm
talking, but I swear I'm old enough to drive cars, vote, and buy alcohol!
*laugh*), and that was the only place I ever heard them because from 1974 to
1984 my city didn't have a local top 40 rock or pop radio station. I really
got into "Call Me" and "One Way Or Another" --- I think I heard those both
at least once a day in 1980/81. For Christmas in 1981, I got the "Parallel
Lines" record, but for some reason around 1982, I totally lost interest in
most music and then by 1986 I was listening to crap like Rick Astley,
Tiffany, Debbie Gibson, Wilson Phillips, Michael Bolton, and the list of
annoying Adult Contemporary artists goes on and on. Not unti high school
when I joined a record club and ended up ordering "The Best Of Blondie" on
CD ("to get back to my childhood memories") did I re-affirm my initial
reaction that Debbie Harry is GOD (I remember writing that on a little air
freshener my HS boyfriend had in his car).
Not only is Debbie an example of how I think a lot of people end up
re-connecting and loving music that they wer exposed to at very young ages,
but I find nowadays that 95% of my CDs, records, and tapes are all by
artists who I first heard between 1976 and 1984, and the other 5% are by new
artists who SOUND like the old ones! :)

OK here goes: I was 16 and working as a dishwasher at
Straw Hat Pizza in L.A. (circa 1979) when Heart of Glass
came on the radio (I think it was K-Earth 101 in case
anyone's familiar with LA. A top 40 station. I was
young and mainstream, what can I say?). Well, of course
I thought it was awesome (radical, bitchin', to use the
vernacular). During the song, one of the guys from the
kitchen (Jeff) came back, and I asked him if he knew
the song. He got a little piqued and in a somewhat
exasperated tone told me that it was Blondie and that
they had put out two really cool albums but then decided
to go commercial and put a disco song on their latest
release. He hated it by I was in love. Next day I got
Parallel Lines and played it over and over until my
parents went crazy. I even bought the 8-track to
play in my Torino (my dad's hand-me-down, but at
16 who cares?). Next time I went to work, Jeff had
brought in Blondie and Plastic Letters for me to
borrow. Three full albums of brand new (to me) Blondie
recordings in less than a week! I have to admit, at
the time I preferred Parallel Lines to their earlier
albums, but as I'm sure you all know, in short time
I was able to appreciate each Blondie/Debbie offering
as unique and overwhelmingly rewarding in its own way
(except maybe for KooKoo..............................JUST KIDDING
GUYS - don't want to get an avalanche of hate mail
from KooKoo supporters).

Well, this is twice as long as I intended - see what you
started!

If you're interested in Wind in the Willows, how about I check the exact price

do a trade or maybe you can just send me the cash for the cd (plus whatever

Everybody's been talking about prices for the WITW CD, how bout some
opinions on it? Personally, I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE it, for some
strange reason. Debbie's backing vocals are fabulous, but even beyond that,
I just thoroughly dig the style and sort of "bouncy folk" kind of thing they
were going for. Maybe it's just because I got brainwashed on my dad's Peter
Paul & Mary records as a young child, I dunno. Their version of "My Uncle
Used To Love Me But She Died" inspired me so much that that was the first
real song I learned to play on acoustic guitar. Every few months I'll drag
out the WITW album and it'll stay in my CD player for at least a week, just
playing along over and over. :)
Ironically enough, my least favourite song on there is probably Debbie's
real vocal spotlight, "Djini Judy." The best one is "Moments Spent," and
for sheer weirdness "There Is But One Truth Daddy" is just such a
lava-lamp-and-recreational-pharmaceuticals song. ;)

scott: your points were acute. but for cosmo and people, well, they
ARENT music magazines, after all. they are dedicated to mindless dribble
about who looks good, whos sleeping with who, etc. screw 'em, anyway.

yea, its nice to know bands have given blondie credit. ive heard jane
weidlen (shes so cute) say something about debbie and blondie being
atypical of when it came to women's status in rock (at that time).

blondie is my favorite group. its the first band ive ever gotten into (in
pre-adolescent years), and all their music covers vast terrain-- from
denis, to rip her..., to detroit 442, go through it, rapture and do the
dark, etc. they are one of the most versatile bands ive ever heard. so
many just sound the same! (alanis). and so many have the worst vocals
anymore, man or woman (alanis/goldfinger), and i think get airplay because
they are following a trend that people have yet to get used to (alanis)

heres what i told my sister: oh, that alanis. she sucks. how can anyone
listen to an entire cd of her squealing. i wish that courtney love would
kick her ass in the womens room and bust those grammys against the wall.

$15.50 WIND IN THE WILLOWS -- WIND IN THE WILLOWS

Thanks for making me laugh first thing in the morning! I think even AM
would have to laugh at that one!

Apparently some of you had trouble viewing the new pictures on the page...
I think I have rectified the situation. Go ahead and look, if you still
have trouble, write me privately.

By the way, do look, there are several new pictures:

The cover photo is a picture of Debbie from, oh, the Rockbird or later are,
wearing a tight leopard skin bustier with her face painted animalistically.

The ones on the "Other Pictures" page are:

>From the motion picture "Heavy".
An alternate shot from the "Remixed Remade Remodeled" photo session.
From the TV series "Wiseguy".
With Glenn Frey, from the TV series "Wiseguy".
Promo photo from the "Rockbird" album by Brain Aris.
With Meatloaf, from the motion picture "Roadie".
Blondie, from Rolling Stone, 1980.
A live shot (from the "Eat To The Beat" era) from Hit Parader magazine.
Blondie, during the filming of the "Eat To The Beat" video album. Photo by
Lynn Goldsmith.

About 4 of these are over 100 K (the Rockbird one is about 320 K!) but they
are good quality scans. I will try and jpg the big ones later today to save
on space and download time, but if you want the highest rez pics get em
today. Some of these come from my private collection of promo 8x10s
(Rockbird, Roadie, Wiseguy) and others from various magazines.

Enjoy,

Hello, folks,
Just got back from the summer holidays to find an inbox explosion.
Never mind.
Do you all know that Mike Thomas, who sort of runs the DHBIS for
the UK and Europe has moved house? I went round to see him, but a woman
came to the door who said that he'd moved to Chester. Anybody have his new
address?
I can seem to find out any reliable information about new Jazz
Passengers releases. Virgin, Liverpool, say that there was a JPs release
on 24th September entitled 'Plain Old Joe'. This was the title of a song
they played in Camden. Andy's Records, Southport, said that 'Plain Old
Joe' came out in 1995 (After JPs In Love) and there were no plans for a
release in the near future. Any clews? Does Plain Old Joe feature Debbie?
When did it come out? Is there a new album out soon?
There keep being rumours in the British music press of the Heads
"No Talking, Just Head" album coming out, but I haven't been able to find
a date for that. Anybody know?
Finally, does anyone know if there were any recordings of Debbie
(Or Jonathan Richman, for that matter) made at the Phoenix this summer? I
know some of the concerts were recorded for and played on BBC Radio 1, but
they never seemed to mention Debbie.

Thanks,
Dave.

Hi folks,

About my first Blondie experience.. Reading your stories I feel
really old, or did you all discover Blondie so late??
Anyway, I was about 9 when I heard Denis on the radio and bought it right
away. It was a huge hit here in Holland and I loved the song and the
band immediately. I soon found out at the local record shop that they
had two other albums (Blondie and Plastic Letters) and I went there almost
every day just to listen to the records (I had no money to buy them).
The guy who owned the shop just let me sit there and listen to the
albums for hours without being annoyed. That was really cool.
I have to admit: I could not understand one word Debbie was singing, I just
liked the sound of her voice. So, by the time I had saved enough money to buy
the albums I already knew them by heart. I'm a big fan ever since.
Those two first albums are still very special to me and I still
listen to them quite often, remembering the good old days....

least in the US, although it may be pushed back a week or two. And
anybody looking for Blondie bootleg CDs should check out Tunnel Records
web site at http://www.csmonline.com/tunnel/groups.html
Last time I looked they had around nine or ten Blondie/DH bootleg CDs at
reasonable prices; Sexual Response was only $36.00 for both CDs. They
have a tremendous number of bootlegs by almost any artist you can imagine.

WELL DID YOU EVAH!

I have heard among this clan
You are called the forgotten man
(Is that what they're sayin')
Well, did you evah!
What a swell party this is
And have you heard the story of
A boy, a girl, unrequited love
(Sounds like pure soap opera - I may cry)
What a swell party this is
What frails
What cocks
What broads
What jocks
What furs - they're beautiful
Why I've never seen such yuppity!
Neither did I
It's all just too swellegant
This French champagne (domestic)
So good for the brain
That's what I was gonna say
Well you know you're a brilliant fellow
Thank you I am
Drink up Jim
So have you ever been out to L.A. lately?
Well no not recently
Well I went there 'n' had a renta car 'n' all
Oh really!
I got invited to Pia's house Pia Zadora's house
Really was that nice?
Well I didn't go
Oh!
It woulda been swell though
Shoulda gone
It woulda been elegant
Elegant
Oh! Wait, look. Look who's comin' in now
I hear they dismantled Pickfair
It wasn't elegant enough
Probably full of termites
Yeah
It's great, it's grand
Wah wah wah wah wah wha wah wah
Wonderland
La la la la la la la la la la la lahhh
We sing, so rare
Like old Camembert
Have you heard the dying star
She got bit in the Astra bar
(Soused again)
Well did you evah!
What a swell party this is
Have you heard- it's in the stars
Next July we collide with Mars
Well did you evah!
What a swell party
What a swell party
What a swell party
What a swellegant
Elegant, party
Smarty,
Party
A Smarty party
I am a Smarty
You are a smarty for coming to this party
Yeah that's right
Now piss off!!!
That's clever I like that one.

Plain Old Joe and any other Jazz Passengers are old albums released on
Crepescule records (Belgium) and Knitting Factory label (NYC). None of
these feature Debbie; in fact, most are totally devoid of any vocals
(besides Curtis Fowlkes, trombonist)
"In Love" is the only commercially available release with Debbie (there is
also a bootleg entitled "Debbie does Luna", which features her and the JP's
in California. I believe the anticipated Oct. release for the new project
with JP's, Debbie, and Elvis Costello got pushed back, I will find out a
date as soon as I can....

Debbie was recorded by Italian MTV (only first few songs), and several
other interviews were done afterwards (BBC and Sky TV) at the Phoenix. If
you are interested in video/audio from this past tour, I have Montreux Jazz
Fest on tape, as well as a few Italian shows on audio tape..I'm always
interested in trading tape....

Hi all!!
There is a new book out called "Warhol Un"something (sorry the exact title
escapes me at the moment. There are several Debbie pictures in it & in fact
there is a chapter entitled Debbie Harry.
If anyone wants I will bring the book home from the store & transcribe the
text. I didn't have time to read it at work.
Anyone interested may want to check it out on their own.

Ps - Annett would not be a diminutive form of Anatasia in Russian. It's
probably just Anna pronounced correctly or it could be Anatsol' or some such
thing but I don't think so.
Anna soon I'll be with you is what I've always thought it was.
A funny Deb/Russia connection happened while I was studying in Moscow in 87.
I was walking down the street one day & stopped to see what someone was
selling on the side of the road. It turned out to be photos of pop/rock
stars. One of them was Debbie. Someone had taken a photo of the Rockbird
cover & was selling b&w prints. Needless to say I bought one & hung it up in
room & was much happier in Russia from that day forward!! If that's a repeat
story, sorry.
Also when Boris Grebenschikov from the Russian group Akvarium came to the US
he met with Debbie & Chris. There was a photo of them in Rolling Stone.

Peace

I read in the Oct. 5th Billboard magazine that the acid jazz band Groove
Thing has just finished a project and Debbie is featured on one of the
tracks called "Command and Obedience". This was mentioned in the dance
section of the magazine so maybe the song will be a single. It is due
out in early 1997.

This single was recorded approx. a year ago, and was recorded because of
the fact that Groove Thing (Groove Collective, as I thought it was) is a
band that features "Jazz Passenger" vibraphonist Bill Ware. Apparently
legal complications with the album itself witheld its release. I have
actually heard the song..which is quite funky and has music just "a bit
similar to Rapure", to quote Bill Ware (personally I heard little
resemblence :) ) From what I remember, the actual lyrics are "Command and
Obey". Anyway, this should be an interesting release!

Cheers!

There are also a couple of small pictures of Debbie, the JPs and Elvis
Costello there too.

You can get the real audio player (it finally supports 680X0 Macs too) at:

I just downloaded the player and I'm gonna check it out... be back in a sec

does anyone know if the saturday night live performance of "dreaming" and

musical acts on that show have gotten better because the acoustics are
better. i do remember, though, that years ago it all sounded terrible in

"change the channel" situation.

im asking because i just glanced at the homepage. great pictures, louis!
i forgot about that snl show; i never did see that in reruns. but i was

space to photos of people you'll never look like, stupid ads for
useless products, and "articles" that concentrate more on the
writer than the subject... specifically, the gay version of that
mag style... Anybody still need the July/August issue of Genre?

Jeez, I don't think I have a story about coming to love Debbie/
Blondie. Like lots of people my age, I'd hear the popular stuff
on the radio and crank it up. (I do remember that "Rapture" really
improved the quality of my life. I was doing a 45-minute horrible
commute each way. When the song was being played on Top 40, I'd
spend the whole trip listening for the song and would get ecstatic
when it came on! LOVED it! (Still do.) Got to work one day and
called the DJ to ask if DH really sang the words "finger fucking"
in the song. The DJ was a jerk on the phone -- not at all like his
on-air personality -- and didn't have a clue. I felt very dis-
illusioned! [And soon enough found lyrics and saw it was, of course,
"finger popping."]) Loved the popular stuff enough to dig into
the albums. And my appreciate continues to grow!

with regards to details on the content/quality of "Die Young, Stay
Blonde," there is good and bad news! The bad first: this show is there
very abundantly bootlegged show of New Year's in Lonodon, which ive seen
in several different formats. i think the manufacturors pick and choose
songs to leave off to entice the sale of all the differing versions. a
tape bootleg i bought in nyc had three extra tracks, but a faster speed,
and left off some of the end, which appears on the DYSB cd. but thats a
minor minor fault. overall, the sound quality is good, and the song
selection is nice, too, with emphasis on eat to the beat(VICTOR!!!) for
any interested parties, here is a rundown of the tracks:
Atomic
Living in the Real World
Eat to the Beat/ Denis
Picture This
Die Young, Stay Pretty
Accidents Never Happen
VICTOR(!!!!)
Heart of Glass
Eat to the Beat
Hanging on the Telephone
Louie Louie
I Feel Love(the same found on the domestic Union City Blue remix single
and import blue vinyl)
Heroes(with Robert Fripp)
I Feel Good
Sunday Girl
Pretty Baby(a great track!)
One Way or Another(a great finale)

Hope this was helpful!!! see y'all later.

I am not familiar with the 1st 2 , ( I would think they are copies of other
bottlegs.)
Headlines: There were 2 release 1st issue had colour sleeve on Lunar Toones 1s-2
Taken from Paradise ballroom Boston Nov 4/78 Stereo ( One of the best boots of
all time)
2nd Headlines is a picture disc of 1st boot in Mono.

Both are very Rare on Vinly, but have been re-released! on CD.

To all my friends on the list , please note my new E-mail address.

I would like to make a comment on our Fab Deb's .
I think this JP tours has been on going for 2 longggg. Too many small parts in
2 many movies.
I Feel that Deborah is WASTED doing what she is currently doing.
Why does she not do what she is best at?, Sing RnRoll.
I wish she would make a new single & go out on tour as Deborah.

There I've got that off my chest.

Just what the world needs. I can already hear it in my head. Yuck.
None of these original artists (especially Debbie!) deserves to have their
songs re-done by whiny, irritating Billy. I know some Pumpkins fans will
want to flame me for this, but I just can't see this turning out well at
all. Besides, no one will ever convince me that he is worth listening to.
It's bad enough to have to endure his voice singing his own material. I
probably wouldn't mind the band TOO much if they had a singer with a voice
that was pleasing to the ear in some way, but he just goes right through me
like nails on a blackboard.
I can appreciate a good cover of a good song for what it is (be it
done in a different style from the original, or whatever), but this will be
worse than what Axl did to Live and Let Die! (can u say..."nasal"?)....and
maybe even worse than Courtney Love trying to sing Stevie Nicks recently.
Poor Stevie. THAT was REAL bad! Some singers should just stick to their own
stuff or maybe something they can do some justice to. Sure, the rest of the
band *might* be able to play a song well enough to make it interesting, but
Billy singing Deb, Ric Ocasek, and Dale Bozzio??! C'mon... It just does not
work.
I guess I'm pretty over-critical (especially of vocals), being a
singer/musician myself, and I just have this thing with that guy's voice. I
guess I'll just have to develop an even faster trigger finger that I
already use whenever I hear that voice on the radio. >;|

Hey all!
The Heads CD came out today. There's a different version of
Debbie doing "No Talking Just Head." I like this new arrangement better
because you can hear Debbie's
vocal much better. It's a slightly different vocal take
than the Virtuosity soundtrack. "Punk Lolita" is cool too.

Here's what Entertainment Weekly said about the CD:

..."Debbie Harry moans the title song to good, torchy
effect." EW goes on to say that all the different
singers prevents the album from "cohering as more
than an energetic stunt" and gives the overall disc a
C+ rating. Unfortunately, they state that the best
cut is "'Punk Lolita,' with Tina Weymouth warbling"
and fail to mention that Debbie (and Johnette N.)
share vocals with Tina on the track!

does anyone know if the saturday night live performance of "dreaming" and
"the hardest part" were well received? over the years, i think the
musical acts on that show have gotten better because the acoustics are
better. i do remember, though, that years ago it all sounded terrible in
that studio. i saw the rolling stones doing "shattered" once and it was a
"change the channel" situation.

im asking because i just glanced at the homepage. great pictures, louis!
i forgot about that snl show; i never did see that in reruns. but i was
wondering how the audience reacted.

Mike Thomas has been doing the distribution and correspondence for the
Debbie Harry Collector's Society (DHCS), the organization that I
created, before email was available anywhere except colleges (and before
anyone had conceived of the web). Mike has had to move several times
lately, so it's been very difficult for people to reach him. I am in
regular contact with him, but unfortunately Mike doesn't have email
access (which besides for the distance, compounds the problem). I will
post his new address whenever I can get a "reliable" one.

I apologize to everyone in England and Europe who has been
inconvenienced by this or who has written to me at my Mechanicsburg
address but who has not received a timely reply. I am trying very hard
to work down my backlog in my few days off between jobs.

Please note my NEW email address below. I am no longer at tseng.com,
and I will be closing panix.com when my account expires in march 1997.

Maybe I'm the last one to find this, but I just came across a great
Blondie interview picture disc. Hard to hear, but so what. I haven't
listened to the whole thing yet, it appears to be a British interview
around the time the band was breaking up. Its from Baktabak records in
England. I got it through Harvard Square Record's cut-out bin catalog.
If you're interested (and you should be for the great album pictures
alone), you can pick up the record for only $10.00.

You can call Harvard Square records at (617) 868-3385, or fax them at

the catalog at P.O. Box 381975, Cambridge, MA 02238. The label is BAK,
the item number is TH5041.

heres a second take on the heads disc... all in all, a really nice and
nostalgic sojourn to the past with many vocals. the new feistier "no
talking..." is ferocious... the vocal is even clearer than before! "punk
lolita" is really fun. still had trouble finding johnette in it at first,
but her bass tambre shone through eventually. other great tracks are
maria mckee's and johnette's efforts. The Live guy did a nice job too,
and i dont like Live, so that was pleasing. on other things... does
anyone know the name of the fox tv movie coming out next month with deb
in it? id like to know to mark the tv guide for viewing pleasure. and
thanks for clearing up my haziness on the locale of the new year's show
on "die young stay blonde"- i appreciate it....

"sometimes i feel like a motherFuckingless child..."- debbie and the f

We should be grateful to the people on this list who know Debbie personally.
We're given news and views that many of us would not ever hear or find out about
on our own (especially way up here in Canada)...
I'm glad that these people bother to supply us with debbie info often faster
than the rest of the world knows about it.
I don't think we should take advantage of this or take it for granted.
Where would
we be without it...

This is a really nice thing to say. I enjoy sending information to the
list, and, within the limits of privacy and professionalism, we try to
give people an inside look to the extent we can. I consider this, and
the appreciation I get for it, to be one of the rewards for all the time
and effort I've invested in the past 10 years to establish my
relationship with Debbie and Chris. April and I, and a few others I've
lost touch with, have put forth so much effort and spent tens of
thousands of dollars travelling to achieve our goals that it boggles the
mind. There is a lot of history behind this, which will be appearing on
a web site near you.... (soon).

Speaking for myself, I don't mind private conversations to answer
questions (if I can), or just to talk, as long as I'm treated with
respect. I'm don't have all the details on the incident with April (who
happens to be one of my very best friends), but to threaten *anyone* on
the list, or anywhere else for that matter, is very much out of line. I
hope everyone can appreciate that when this list was first started
(before Louis took it over and added all of his fine work), it was a
PRIVATE list. Individuals could not subscribe themselves and therefore
we didn't have problems like that sort of email, or people quoting the
entire message, or posting one word messages or unsubscribe requests to
the list. Let the record show that there is no reason Louis couldn't
run the list that way if he chose to.

I'm also sure he's had enough of this thread, so now that I've put my
two cents in, I will be dismissing it.

I am sorry to hear that you are being harrassed. However, if you &
the others are concerned about being bothered with questions or
threats, you might consider subscribing as an anonymous member of the
DHBIS & phrase your useful information to the DHBIS in a way that
would not put you at risk of harrassment. At times, even though I'm
positive it is not intentional, some of you that know Debbie Harry in
a personal capacity, in one way or another, come across a bit pompous
therefore causing some people to take offense to it. This has not
been my experience when retrieving e-mails from "management", but I
have read conversations from other members that speak of disgust with
some of you. Adam 1963 in particular.

Once again, I appreciate the fact that you are willing to share
information and I personally find it fascinating rather than
pretentious when I receive information from the likes of Barry, Adam
and now yourself.

they otherwise might not be able to locate. The fact that myself and a few
other members on this list happpen to know Deborah in either a personal or

Hi

I don't know about the concert dates in California. The 'ca' in my email
address refers to Canada.

I first saw debbie (with the jp's) in Toronto back in oct 94. I just saw
them again
recently doing songs from their new album in Saskatoon in June 96.

I've probably been a fan since the late 70's. I'm not sure exactly since I
was kinda
young...

Good luck finding out about California dates!

Sorry, but I strongly disagree with you on this. Nobody on the list
should have to alter their posts because of the actions of a few idiots!
You make it sound like the flame April received was justified, when it
in fact was inexcusable behavior. And I too greatly appreciate the
generosity shown by Adam, Barry and April in sharing information with the
mailing list; we're fortunate to have them.

Bill and everyone else..

I apologize for this post, I just did not feel that anyone should be
harrassed on the list..for any reason. I certainly did not mean to imply
that anyone should be "grateful" to have people like Barry, myself, etc. on
the list, and I humbly apologize if it sounded that way. The message was
directed towards whoever wrote that (Charles Voucher? I refused to give
Debbie's personal phone number and address to him). Geez, I've only been on
this list for four days and already I'm the start of trouble. :( It
seems to be my life story.....anyway,

I want to take this time to say hello to everyone, I'm happy to finally be
a part of the DHBIS. I've learned a lot already that I didn't know from the
messages posted..I believe we are all on here for a common reason (DH) and
to help each other.

For those of you who do not know me, my name is April, I am a HUGE fan of
Debbie's, and, yes, I have been lucky enough to get to work with the Jazz
Passengers. If anyone has any questions regarding them, please *do* feel
free to email me at my personal address.

Yes, I bought it today. Good CD, Michael Hutchence is good in it too,
doesn't really sound like his InXS voice... kinda like "NTJH" doesn't sound
like Debbie's normal voice at first.

The big difference between the "Virtuosity" "NTJH" and the album version is
the album one has a different, uncencored vocal on it (Debbie says
"fucking" in the chorus). The music is almost identical but the backing
vocals have been mostly shaved away too, leaving Debbie rawly in the
foreground.

Debbie and Johnette are pretty much background singers on "Punk Lolita", I
thought they'd stand out more. The other songs are good, weird subject
matter at times, but very enjoyable. "Blue Blue Moon", the last song, is a
standout for me.

Hi folks,

First off I apologize to April for the unwanted email. I have put the
person in question on temporary (perhaps permanant?) leave-of-absence from
the list, until he can provide an adequate explanation for his actions (at
this point it doesn't look likely to happen though). Threatening emails
will, as of now, be reason enough to be kicked from the list. Not that I
have to tell the lot of you though, most DHBISers are pretty cool in that
respect. :)

Second, I do have the capability to make the list approved subscription
only if I have to, but this severely slows down sub/unsub requests and is
more of a hassle, so unless the problem persists, I'll leave it as is for
now.

Third, I apologize for not responding sooner, but this must have happened
this morning, and I just woke up. :)

Folks,
I whole-hearted agree with Bill. This kind of behavior is not only
impolite and inexcusable, it shows a potentialy dangerous mind-set someone
can have. Just because an artist has a public persona and is generous
enough to share that talent and part of themselves with us; does not mean
that they somehow "belong" to their fans. I enjoy discussing Debbie and her
music because her music and persona has influenced me in my own life and
it's great to know that others share those influences. It's only natural to
speculate among ourselves what the person responsible for creating these
images and feelings is "really" like, but I never once felt that because I
was a big fan of Debbie and Blondie, that every aspect of their lives was
open for my investigation. They do not "owe me" that in return for my
support. In fact, it is we who owe them for the moments of happiness and
simple joy their unique talents have provided us.
I own Debbie's image and sound on my records. The woman named Deborah Ann
Harry doesn't know me and I don't know her. And for me to believe anything
else is insainity.
You will all have to forgive me for going on so long, inside me is the
little boy who heard, on December 8th, 1980, that one of his heroes had
been killed by " a fan". This sort of thing, just brings that feeling back.
As always I'm
Obediently Yours,

Subject: [DHBIS] "Heads" int.

Hello everyone..on a lighter note for the evening..

Here on Long Island we have this dumb little local music paper called the
"Island Ear", anyway, it has a big article entitled "Th Heads--three heads
are better than one". On the inside contents is a little pic (B&W) of
Tina, Debbie, Jerry Harrison, and Chris Frantz. It's a pretty long
article..but to quote the most interesting tidbits for us all...
_______________

?-If he wanted to come back, would you let Byrne back in the band?

Weymouth: I'd have to think about that one. It would be very inconvenient
if we had another singer. Maybe we could ask him to come back with us as a
guitarist. He wasn't our original choice of a singer.

?-Who was?

Weymouth: Debbie Harry. But she said "I'm already singing with another
band," so David filled that slot until we found somebody. But then we said
"Hey David, you're doing a great job, just continue."
-----------
?-After it was all said and done (new heads album) did you have any second
thoughts on who was on the album?

Weymouth: Absolutely not.

Frantz: A couple of our advisors did. But we said "man, you don't get it."
In the music business, there is always this idea that you should get who's
the latest kind of person.

Weymouth: But that's so trendy.

Frantz: Then you find out that next year this person is not at all hot.

Weymouth: So it didn't make sense to us from an artistic point of view.
And as a listener of the album, we wanted it to be varied. It would have
been a disservice to the project if we started to put on who was hip or
trendy for that moment. As we know, people come and go but they still
remain artists even if you are not hearing about them. They are often
doing very good and interesting work, and that is why we asked both Debbie
Harry and Richard Hell, because neither of them had a number one on the
charts--but that wasn't the issue. The issue was are they doing
interesting work.
____________________________

Anyway, email me if you want a copy of the article. The Island Ear is
free, and since I go to a music school, we have stacks of them in the
hallway!

Regarding the most recent incident, the DHBIS as a whole, only

I'd like to delurk briefly to add my voice to the rapidly forming "April,
Adam Appreciation Society". Their
information has been what has set this list apart from others and made it
so fun to get the inside info on the career of one of my favourite
singers. It really is deplorable that this should be taken for granted or
abused.
And to add to what Scott (?) said, I agree that it's fine to take
an interest and I guess "own" a star's public life - the icon that gets
sold to us. But someone's private life is their own and should be
respected. I mean whenever I go and see a band I go mental whilst they're
on stage, but wouldn't rush them in the street. I've never even hung
around for autographs after shows (not even after one of Debbie's). It
just doesn't feel right somehow (to me anyhow, but then I also wonder
what I'd have to say to them, and I refuse to be some fawning fanboy
going "oh you're so wonderful. I love you!"). Partly that's 'cause I like
the idea of a "star" being something "other" and removed from the
everyday. Meeting them can shatter that illusion... they are *drum roll*
normal folks after all!! Golly! And it's their music which I ultimately
want, not them (though an image goes a long way.)
So to April, Adam (am I right in thinking you listen to the bingy
bingy bongy children?:) and others, please stay!

Theory at Bristol University and getting a little confused.)

The meaning of accusation: A formal charge brought before a court
against a person, stating that he is guilty of some punishable offense. What I
wrote hardly accused you of anything except for that at times you have made some
peoples butt itch. It's a free country, and itching one's ass on occasion is
hardly punishable by law. Sorrrrrrrrrry! Now, can we all lighten up on this?

and I will try to curb whatever I did that was inappropriate (if it was
inapropriate).

MTV has reported it as well... so it's GOTTA be true!

I just got home from work (I'm usually away for the whole week). The first
thing I always do is checking my e-mail. And this time I'm really
dissapointed in what I found in the mail box. Are we not a club of nice
people sharing a common interest, a common passion. So why can't we stay
nice for each other ?

I strongly appreciate what Adam, April, Louis and so many others do for us.
And as far as Barry is concerned, I feel (thanks to a few personal mails) he
has become an internet-"pal". So, I get angrier with every small attack on
their person !

I do understand the strong feeling of wanting to meet Debbie and talk to her
though. Probably that's what drives some people in uttering threats and so.
I am a huge Debbie fan since 1978 and finally met her by accident in
Brussels last year. I really had waited for that moment for almost twenty
years. I was so overwhelmed I couldn't say one sensible word. I hate myself
for that and am still longing for a good conversation with her, for being
able to tell her of the importance of her music, her being for my life. But
I will have to wait for that second accident and leave her and others alone.
Why can't everyone ?

Erwin.

which I found in Newark NJ's Star Ledger.

There was a brief mention in the Sept 27 issue of Entertainment Weekly also.

i am thouroghly enjoying the heads album as i write. what an entertaining
collection of thoughts in my inbox today. last year in school when i
first joined the dhbis, i created a small flare with a comment concerning
certain members' pompous attitudes regarding their " personal"
relationships with Ms. Harry. not in a spiteful way, but sort of out of a
misguided sense of jealousy, since i was 22 and in tennessee, far from
NYC in location and from the original heart of fandom most probably
spawned in the late 70's. we all smoothed that over and i learned a
lesson. we cant all be intimate with our fantasies, and thats where our
icons must stay, unless circumstances prove otherwise. and we also must
NOT resent or even grow to hate anyone else who fate has smiled upon. my
listening pleasure garnered from debbie's solo and group work has not
diminished by the fact that i dont know her; it IS enhanced by the
helpful and insightful tour dates, infobits, and personal accounts
provided by louis and the gang, as every little account makes debbie all
that more individual to me( and hopefully to all who read the words sent
here). im glad i straightened up my views then, and i hope any other
troubled members can take this attitude. we wouldnt "know" each other
without this forum. and ive made some friends here(hi katie!). well,
enough of that.
peacefully yours...

Everyone should go and check out the new issue of High Times. There is
quite a lengthy, current interview inside with some nice pictures. Quite a
more interesting interview than some of those in the past. I highly
recommend that everyone go out and find one. Iggy Pop and the Sex Pistols
are inside as well. Check it out!

Hi everyone!
The new issue of Alternative Press has a small bit about Blondie in it, as
well as a small picture of Debbie on the cover (ETTB period). The article
lists 100 inspirational alternative music groups. (Devo is also listed...
does anyone remember their video where they all look like aliens? - the
picture on the cover...)

Speaking of the Heads...
It seems that the group is angry with David Byrne. What did he do so bad?
Solo career? (Debbie doing Psycho Killer.... mmmmm:)

If anyone wants to meet her, there is an opportunity at about half the
shows. Under the proper circumstances (i.e., doesn't have to be
somewhere, etc.), Debbie will often take time to sign autographs for
those who ask. Her appreciation for her supporters is one of the things
that earns my respect (unlike many other famous people of her stature).
After all, Debbie is a really nice person, but a little quiet.

ummm, no, it was perseverence, tenacity, and hard work, not fate. At
least in my case. I had no help and I can assure you... (to quote Mr.
Spock) "There was no deity involved."

Unrelated note: Ron Frederick, if you're still on the list: I have your
Howard Stern tapes. I'm moving again so they might get buried. Send me
your address and I will return them (five years late.... sorry).
